Read a Book Again

One of the twenty-one small things I suggested we should probably start doing again was reading.

Even one chapter every two days is enough.

Today I decided to follow my own advice. I picked up a book from my shelf, opened it at a random page, and started reading.

The book was What I Know For Sure by Oprah Winfrey.

The page was about gratitude.

What surprised me was not what Oprah wrote.

What surprised me was what happened inside me while reading it.

One page took me back through years of memories.

  • Saturday pancakes with my son.

  • Fires in the garden.

  • Books I used to own.

  • Colouring books I still love.

  • Looking at the sky after midnight.

  • Sleeping until my body wakes naturally.

  • Quiet moments.

Gratitude.

I realised that reading is not always about learning something new.

Sometimes reading helps us remember things we already knew but had forgotten.
